NJA 18th National Convention Concludes Manju Ratna Sakya reelected NJA President for 5 years
Kathmandu – 28th April 2008 : The 18th National Convention (General Assembly) of Nepal Journalists Association (NJA) was held successfully at Hotel Ambassador on 28th April 2008.
The meeting was presided by Senior Journalist and Special Advisor of NJA Mr. Ram Chandra Neupane.
The National Convention of NJA unanimously reelected Mr. Manju Ratna Sakya for the post of President of Nepal Journalists Association for five year term as per the NJA Constitution.
At the meeting, NJA Treasurer Mr. Prakash Maskey presented the Income & Expenditure Accounts, Balance - Sheet and Auditors Report of NJA for the fiscal year 2061, 2062, 2063 and 2064 which was audited by Registered Auditor of Nepal Chartered Association, Mr. M.D. Agrawal. The meeting also unanimously approved the Income & Expenditure Account, Balance Sheet and Auditors Reports of the above fiscal years.
Likewise the meeting had also approved some amendments and additions in the NJA Constitution 2061.
Meanwhile newly reelected NJA President Mr. Manju Ratna Sakya formed the eight members Central Executive Committee. In the Committee Mr. Nirmal Kumar Aryal and Mr. Sudarshan Panta are nominated for the post of General Secretary and Secretary. Likewise, Mr. Mohan Bir Thapa and Mr. Prakash Maskey are nominated for the post of Public Relation Secretary and Treasurer.
Mr. Keshav Karki, Mrs. Radha Sharma and H. Pradhan are nominated the members of the Committee.

Kathmandu - 16 May 2008: A high level Five member Nepalese journalists delegation is visiting Pyongyang on last week of August at the official invitation of Govt. of D.P.R. of Korea.
The delegation will be led by President of Nepal Journalists Association Mr. Manju Ratna Sakya.
During the stay in DPRK, the Nepalese journalists delegation will handover the “Nepal International Peace Award” to the Great Leader of the Korean People His Excellency Comrade KIM JONG IL at the special Ceremony in Pyongyang.
Nepal Journalists Association at its 18th National Convention which was held in Kathmandu on 28th April 2008 had unanimously decided to confirm the “Nepal International Peace Prize” to the Great Leader Comrade KIM JONG IL for his immortal contributions for peace and dignity to all the progressive people of the world and to the entire Korean people.

Hotel of Pyongyang, the placards of "Let us strengthen
solidarity with the peace loving forces of the world" and
"Let us smash the war Maneuver of the US imperialists and
safe guard Global Peace and Security" are displayed
At the function, a letter "To the congress of the U.S.A"
and An Appeal "To the world Progressive People
Loving Justice and Peace" also read out and passed unanimously.

Kathmandu :
A six member high level Nepalese journalists delegation led
by Mr. Manju Ratna Sakya, President of Nepal Journalists Association
(NJA) return home after the successful one week visit to DPRK.
The NJA delegation was in DPRK at the official invitation of
the Govt. of DPRK from 13th feb. to 19th feb. 2007.
After visit from DPRK, the NJA delegation visited the different
parts of Beijing and Shanghai and met the Media people and other
different personalities.
In the delegation, Mrs. Subha Laxmi Sakya, Mr. Nirmal Kumar
Aryal, Mr. Hari Gopal Pradhan, Mr. Chiran Sakya and Radha Pradhan
are the members.
The delegation left Kathmandu for Shanghai on 11th Feb. Saturday.
NJA President Mr. Manju Ratna Sakya had a opportunity to meet
the Great Leader President KIM IL SUNG and face to face direct
interview with the Great Leader President KIM IL SUNG on 19th
June 1979 in Pyongyang.

NJA Office premises Extended
KATHMANDU : 16th Nov. 2005 The addition in the top
floor and extension in the ground floor of NJA building
was completed on 29th Kartik 2062 (15 th November 2005)
under the supervision, designing and consultancy of Senior
Engineer Mr. Ramesh Chandra Bandhu Bhattarai, Managing Director
of M/s. Rasuna Engineering and Construction Pvt. Ltd.
The Construction of (a) four rooms including kitchen and
bath room in the top floor (b) Extension of kitchen room
in the ground floor and (c) permanent construction of servant
quarter in the ground floor was started on 30th Bhadra 062
(15th September 2005) during the period of Dashain, Depavali
Chhatha and Id National festivals. The NJA Central executive
committee meeting held on 15th Nov. 2005 approved the construction
amount of Rs. 5,33,038.75.
The meeting also decided to convey thanks to Mr. Bhattarai
for his sincere devotion in the construction works.
Mr. Bhattarai is also the chief of Technical Advisory Committee
of NJA.

Relations very friendly; Ambassador Kathmandu:
8th Jan 2006 NJA organized a reception in honour of Ambassador
of th Union of Myanmar, U Aung Khin Soe at Hotel Soaltee said
'Myanmar and Nepal have been enjoying cordial relations based
on the traditional ties of friendship for a long time and
our two people are linked together by similar values in various
areas and share similarities in cultural heritage. '
'The establishment of diplomatic relations between our two
countries in 1960 broadened the scope of the friendly ties
between us' he said.
Envoy U Aung Khin Soe further said that the friendly, good
neighboring relations between our two countries shall continue
to enhance to our mutual benefits in the years to come and
express his sincere, warm wishes towards Nepal and the Nepalese
people.
Ambassador Soe said that he would remain committed to further
strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Seeing is Believing: NJA Chief On the
same occasion, from the Chair, Mr. Manju Ratna Sakya, President
of Nepal Journalists Association said, the Myanmar people
are enjoying full freedom of work, full freedom of democracy,
full freedom of human rights and full freedom of press.
The NJA Chief Mr. Sakya said, Myanmar is today enjoying peace,
political stability and security as never before in the history
of Myanmar. All over Myanmar, the people are almost voluntarily
cooperating in various development projects, building of monasteries,
pagodas, roads, dams, schools, bridges, hospitals etc. Likewise,
the Government is giving priority to fulfill the basis requirements
of the people and promoting their standard of living. The
relation between the people and the Government of Union of
Myanmar is just like that relation between water and fish.
All Myanmar people are happy with the Government led by H.E.
Sen. Gen. Than Swe, Chairman of State Peace and Development
Council and the people are fully satisfied with the Govt.
activities.
Under the far-sighted and dynamics leadership of H.E. Sen.
Gen. Than Swe, Chairman of State Peace and Development Council,
Myanmar is progressing all round development, Mr. Sakya said.
Mr. Sakya further said, being a Buddhist country, the people
of Myanmar are interested to visit the four sacred places
including Lumbini, Bodhi Gaya, Kushi Nagar and Sarnath once
in their life time . So, he requested to the HMG of Nepal
to resume the direct air flight from Kathmandu to Yangon to
Kathmandu at the earliest.
"Western & European medias are publicising baseless
and wrong news about Myanmar. They are doing yellow journalism
against Myanmar. Seeing is believing. They should visit Myanmar
first and write something after that only" Mr. Sakya
said.
He further said: the exchange of journalists visit between
Nepal Journalists Association and Myanmar Journalists Association
will further contribute for the excellent relations between
Nepal and the Union of Myanmar.

Nepal

journalists delegation led by the President of All-China Journalists
Association is visiting Nepal on the invitation of Nepal Journalists

Lands to Its Own Building
Breaking
the history of the Nepalese journalism, Nepal Journalists
Association (NJA) became the very first non-governmental organization
in the field of journalism that has been able to set up its
own building.
One of the active professional organizations NJA bought a
house at Jana Prabhat Marg, Kalimati (Behind Salt Trading
Ltd.) worth of 6.6 million rupees. The new house has two and
a half storey.
The dream of having its own building of NJA was realized
after NJA sold its two ropanies of land located at Harihar
Bhawan of Pulchowk to one of the public enterprises—Employers’
Provident Fund of HM Govt of Nepal.
To mark the entry into the house, an auspicious religious
function was organized at the premises of the new house on
17th September, 2004. At the grand function, besides the journalists,
various personalities from different occupations including
Hon Mr Salim Miya Ansari, Chairman of Samajbadi Party Nepal
and former Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation were also

Re-elected NJA Chief
Kathmandu: Mr Manju Ratna Sakya has been re-elected to the
post of Central President of the Nepal Journalists Association
(NJA).
He was voted for the Presidentship by overwhelming voters
at the 17th General Meeting concluded here Tuesday, 13th April.
Earlier, the meeting has passed all the income and expenditure
statements presented by Nirmal Kumar Aryal on the behalf of
the Treasurer effective from 1st Baisakh 2056 BS till the
end of Chaitra 2060 BS.
The meeting also passed the resolution demanding with the
government for the equal treatment, opportunity without bias
to all the journalists as well as creation of good environment
for the development of journalism with respecting rights and
duties, ethics, norms and values.
The general meeting also expressed heartfelt condolence over
the sad and untimely demise of its Treasurer late Gautam who
died forty days ago at the age of 61 due to brain hemorrhage
and diabetes.
A minute of silence was observed for the peace of departed
soul. In rembembrance of the late Treasurer contributions
for the development of journalism in Nepal as well as for
the NJA to bring up to the present level, the meeting of the
NJA has decided to establish “NJA Abhapani Gautam Journalism
Prize”.
The prize carries 10,000 Nepalese rupees and certificate
which will be awarded to professional journalist every year.
Meanwhile the meeting also expressed heartfelt thanks to HMG
for providing financial assistance to late Gautam during his
ill days.
Speaking at the concluding session, ex-minister Prakash Bahadur
Singh, ex-minister Salim Miya Ansari and NJA Advisor Ramchandra
Neupane urged all the journalists to work for the nation,
people and monarchy keeping personal interest aside.
“As journalists are the pillar or the nation, the fourth
state should be involved for the development of the nation
without biasness”, they urged. |

12 Hours Relay
Hunger Strike by NJA
After the introduction of multi-party system in Nepal in
1990, NJA protested against the Govt. of Mr. K.P. Bhattarai
demanding 18 points for the free press in Nepal. The then
Government did not respond about the NJA demands. Then NJA
decided to organise 12 Hours Relay Hunger Strike at Bhadrakali
Temple, Kathmandu, on 10th August, 1990, the first time in
the history of Nepal by the journalists. The details of the

The NJA at the request of the Former Prime Minister Mr.
K. P. Bhattarai called off the 12 hours relay hunger strike
on 12th August, 1990. The strike was called off after the
Former Prime Minister Mr. Bhattarai met Mr. M. R. Sakya, President
of NJA, on the premises of the Bhadrakali Temple and assured
him to fulfill their demands within a month.
The Prime Minister then offered cold drinks to the five
journalists taking part in the fifth round of the relay hunger
strike from 8:00 morning.
During the time of the Relay Hunger Strike, all the political
parties different political persons, individuals, journalists
supported and signed in the Visitors book at Bhadrakali Temple,

On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the founding of
the DPRK, NJA Chief and Mrs. Sakya attended grand Banquet
(Grand Dinner) hosted by His Excellency Mr. KIM YONG NAM,
President of the Supreme People’s Assembly on 9th Sep. 2008 at
Mansudae Hall of Pyongyang.
The NJA Chief Mr. Sakya presented the “Nepal International
Peace Award” of His Excellency The Great Leader of the Korean
People KIM JONG IL to H.E. Mr. Yang Hyong Sop, Vice President
of Supreme People’s Assembly at the special function in
Mansudae Hall of Pyongyang on 7th Sept. 2008. This prestigious
award was unanimously decided to deliver to His Excellency The
Great Leader KIM JONG IL, General Secretary of the Workers’
Party of Korea, Chairman of the National Defence Commission of
DPRK and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army by NJA
on 28th April 2008 in Kathmandu.
Likewise, Vice-President of the Presidium of Supreme People’s
Assembly His Excellency Mr.Yong Hyong Sop decorated the
highest Friendship Medal to NJA Chief Mr. Manju Ratna Sakya
amidst a special function at Mansudae Assembly Hall at 9.30
a.m. on 7th Sept. 2008.
Mr. Sakya is the First Nepali, who was decorated twice by
DPRK Government. The first Medal was decorated to him on 17th
Feb. 2007 in Pyongyang. NJA Chief Mr. Sakya was decorated this
highest Friendship Medals for his continuous contribution to
strengthen the friendly relations between Nepal and DPRK.
On 8th Sept. 2008, NJA Chief and Mrs. Sakya also met
Comrade Kim Ki Nam, Secretary of C.C of the Workers Party of
Korea at Korean T.V. Centre in Pyongyang.
Mr. & Mrs. Sakya also attended in the program of special
report of the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of DPRK which
was presented by H.E. KIM YONG IL Prime Minister of DPRK on
8th Sept. 2008. Likewise The NJA President & Mrs. Sakya also
attended at the banquet dinner hosted by Mr. Mun Jae Chol
acting Chairman of the Committee for Cultural Relations with
Foreign Countries of DPRK on 10th Sept. 2008. At the dinner
Mr. Sakya expressed good health, long life and prosperity of
The great Leader His Excellency KIM JONG IL.
During their stay in Pyongyang. NJA President Mr. and Mrs.
Sakya left Pyongyang after the successful visit of DPRK. Both
of them visited DPRK at the official invitation of Govt. of
DPRK from 6th Sept. 2008. After visit to DPRK both of them
visited Beijing and met the Chinese Journalists also.
